While much has changed in the century-old building, the comfortable feel ofthe brewpub has stayed the same. Rustic brick, timber and iron elements arestill the theme, and concrete floors remain in the main pub. Tables arelined in rows, reflecting the commitment to remaining a true public house byfostering community among guests. The open architectural design reveals thecharacter of the building while improving the overall layout, providingbetter access, bringing in natural light, and preserving and elevating thepublic house aspect of the brewpub. There are six elements to the new space: the pub/dock, the bakery, thedining room, the mezzanine bar, the Old Knucklehead Room, and the HeritageRoom. The redesigned pub offers an authentic brewpub experience, with anemphasis on BridgePort's brewing history; step up to the bar for a pint ofbrewery fresh IPA served straight from the finishing tanks. The loadingdock, a perennial hangout for BridgePort regulars in the past, now seats upto 77 with low tables and barstools that overlook the revitalized 13th Ave. The bakery was added to create another part of the day in which guests canenjoy the brewpub experience. The connection is not as odd as one wouldthink: it was through the making of bread that beer was first discovered. Here you can order up hand-shaped loaves, oven fresh pastries, creativesmall bites, and high-quality espresso drinks. The dining room provides an elevated yet casual dining experience, with asimple food concept: create great tasting, hand crafted European andNorthwest inspired dishes using the freshest regional and sustainableingredients, with an emphasis on flavorful fire-grilled and smoked foods. The upstairs mezzanine bar is designed to provide a cosmopolitan dining anddrinking experience by offering handcrafted ales, quality wines, and classiccocktails in a lounge-like setting. The Old Knucklehead Room, located on the main floor, is the new "Quiet Room"with periodicals and a private setting in the midst of the bustling pub. Itis also available for rental to groups up to 24. The Heritage Room isupstairs and offers a traditional BridgePort setting with modern amenitiesfor private parties up to 125.The architectural firm in charge of the renovation was Holst Architecture ofPortland, with Jeff Stuhr and Kevin Valk serving as the lead architects.Australian architect Martyn Hook consulted on the project. Knopf BrothersConstruction acted as the general contractor, as it did on the original pub20 years ago; some things never change. The original BridgePort BrewPub established itself in 1986 in the industrialNW neighborhood, long before it became known as the Pearl District. Therenovation was the result of the brewery looking to the future by findingways to broaden the pub's appeal to the changing demographic of theneighborhood, while continuing to please loyal patrons from the past twodecades. Because of the vision of the leaders who transformed the localneighborhood, BridgePort Brewpub was compelled to take on the renovation. Bridgeport Brewpub & Bakery is located at 1313 N.W.
