Chelan is another one of those towns that’s ideal for the entire family or just a couple on a romantic vacation.

This resort town is located on the Southeastend of Lake Chelan. Because of its dry climate, hiding in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, the town luressome 300 days of sunshine.

The lake is the third deepest lake in the country with a depth of some 1,500 feet. There are 27 glaciers providing fresh ice-cold water to the lake with 59streams pouring into the lake. The lake is less than 2-miles wide; however, it stretches some 55-miles in length.

The area provides a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts such as: hiking, climbing and a vast array of water sports. For the more adventurous you may want totake in the romantic setting of a boat ride to the small isolated village of Stehekin. Leaving daily during the summer at 8:30 a.m.. the Lady Of The Lake will carry passengers and supplies to the remote Stehekin village. It’s a 55-mile boat ride with plenty of time to enjoy the natural pristine area, cascading waterfalls, and even a mountain goat perched high up on the cliffs.

The boat ride aboard the Lady Of The Lake takes4-hours. If you pressed for time, there’s the faster Lady Express, just over 2-hours and the Lady Cat,1-hour. However, if you want to savorthe settings, take the Lady Of The Lake and enjoy the trip. Basking on the stern with the sun on your forehead is a deluxe treat.

If you’re really pressed up against the clock and want to visit Stehekin you can board a seaplane. Call Chelan Airways for the details: 509-682-5555.

For information about any of the boat trips call the Lake Chelan Boat Company at 509-682-4584.

There are several options for accommodations in this resort town area, however, during the summer peak season lodging can get difficult. If you’re a camper, there are two State Parks along the lake, Lake Chelan State Park (509-687-3610) and Twenty-five Mile Creek State Park (509-687-3710).

Also, feel free to contact the Chelan Chamber of Commerce at 800-424-3526.
