Crescent City...An Extension of The Oregon Coast

If there wasn't an apparent border crossing between Oregon and California, you'd never know you were in California while visiting Crescent City. This quaint coastal town is an extension of the Oregon Coast.

The beach area, just south of town, is a crescent shape with a superb sandy beach. It's the perfect place for a stroll, and if you have kids, an ideal place to play. Our young kids enjoyed building a fort out of the mounds of driftwood.

While visiting town you'll want to check out the Battery Point Lighthouse. It's located at the end of "H" Street, simply ask any local and they can point you in the right direction.

The Battery Point Lighthouse was built in 1856 and is still in operation. It's a part of the historical Oregon Coast lighthouses. You can participate in a guided tour or simply relax and take in the magnificent beauty.

Crescent City is a perfect place to use as a base area to check out the Redwoods. You'll have the ability to check out Jedediah Smith Redwoods and Del Norte Coastal Redwoods. You can gather all the information you need from the Chamber of Commerce, 1001 Front Street.

There are several area motels too. We stayed at the Comfort Inn. They are located off Hwy 101 on the ocean side. It was a comfortable place to stay, right along the beach. What we particularly like, the Comfort Inn is part of Choice Hotels, a large conglomerate of hotels, that offer rewards. Be sure to take advantage of their reward program. Check with any of the Choice Hotels for all the info.

We highly recommend that you check out this California coastal town and make it a part of your Oregon Coast tour. It fits perfectly.
