Whatever the case, through our travels we've encountered a few people who were turned down on buying investment properties or an RV simply because their credit report was incorrect. Apparently they had paid all their bills on-time and thought their credit history was impeccable; however, the report told otherwise.
Lesson learned, get a free online credit report today and make sure your credit history matches the credit report. If you wait, you just may have waited too long.
We received a free online credit report and noticed a couple of open credit cards listed, we weren't aware of those cards. As a result, we contacted the noted credit card companies and canceled the accounts. It's highly recommend that you clean up the unnecessary clutter on your credit report, like open credit cards that you don't use.
Don't be surprised if you notice an error on your report. The U.S. Public Internet Research Group noted that some 79% of the reports contain errors and some 25% are serious enough to hinder you in obtaining a loan or a possible job. That should be enough to get you to take advantage of a free online credit report.

If you notice discrepancies and want to clean up the report, you'll have to contact each of the 3-National Credit Reporting agencies; Equifax, 800-685-1111; TransUnion, 800-916-8800; and Experian, 888-397-3742. You'll have to follow their specific guidelines to challenge the error. It will also make sense to contact the creditor too, such as the credit card company.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act has made all of this possible, the opportunity clean up your credit report. In the cleaning process if the agencies have not acted promptly, feel free to contact the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357. You can file a complaint and they may offer you some suggestions.
