The Bavarian-style town of Leavenworth Washington is situated 20-miles west of Wenatchee and located conveniently along Highway 2 or the Stevens Pass Highway. Leavenworth is a place the truly welcome visitors and if you’re looking for a family outing, you’ve found it here at Leavenworth. Or if you’re planning on a romantic vacation, consider Leavenworth.

Leavenworth welcomes visitors year-round, there’s always something happening in Leavenworth. But the picturesque town did not always portray the Bavarian theme. In 1964 Leavenworth was facing some bleak economic times. The townspeople decided to take a gamble and redesign the town to that of a Bavarian theme, after-all, the scenic mountain backdrop makes it look as if one is in the Swiss Alps.

The towns people won with their gamble, today the Bavarian-style buildings attract thousands of visitors annually. You’ll enjoy the many hours browsing through the vast array of shops, breath in the fresh mountain air and the flower fragrance from the colorful hanging flower baskets, and soak in refinement with spectacular views captured around the village. When hunger or thirst takes hold of you, fear-not for there are several eating establishments to drive your taste-buds wild.

Leavenworth Washington bustles with a variety of festivals, art shows and theater productions. The most popular festival is the classic Bavarian Festival, the Fashing held in February. The Maifest has a 16th Century theme featuring the famous maypole dances, jousting and the Tyrolean Haflinger horses. And of course, Oktoberfest, the traditional celebration of German food, beer and music. Ending the year is the Christkindlmarket, an open air-market similar to those in Germany.

If and when you finish visiting the town, there are a host of recreational opportunities as well. Running the Wenatchee River on a raft is always a welcome treat or take a sleigh ride during the winter. There’s fun for the whole family.

Now, if you’re considering coming to Leavenworth Washington as a getaway you’ll have the option to join in the many recreational activities or simply lounge around and enjoy the many spectacular views. Leavenworth has a natural romantic setting, you will not go wrong.

Lodging can be difficult to find, especially during the summer months; however, if you plan ahead you’ll get some fabulous accommodations. You have options of staying at one of the many chalet-type motels and hotels.
