Long Beach WA is considered the Cape Cod of the West. For a family outing this place is ideal. Long Beach is located along the coast of Southwestern Washington, right where the Columbia River meets up with the mighty Pacific Ocean. Long Beach WA is situated on a peninsula, some 28 miles long and 2 miles wide. The peninsula makes for an exciting place to explore and participate in an array of activities. You can easily hop on a bicycle and tour about the peninsula or search out the antiques throughout an array of shops. There's lots to do with the kids too. Long Beach has a 1/2 mile boardwalk that's fabulous for an evening stroll with the entire family or experience riding the go-carts, horseback riding or kite flying. The Kite Museum is a worthwhile visit, be sure to check it out. A site worth visiting is the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. You can follow the 4-mile path that leads you to the oldest lighthouse that's still in use on the West Coast. While en-route you'll pass through time into areas that Lewis & Clark trekked in 1805. The trees, some old-growth, have captured this history...it's stunning imagining Lewis & Clark walking past these same trees years ago. All in all, Long Beach WA has lots to offer. We usually set up our base camp at Thousand Trails, a private campground not far from Long Beach. There are also several hotels/motels throughout the area.
