Lopez Island...The Wonder of Magic
Upon boarding the ferry in Anacortes, you'll reach Lopez Island approximately in 45-minutes. Of course this depends on weather; fog, wind, etc. If you'd prefer to fly, you can send us a request for San Juan Air Charter. You'll fly in style aboard a floatplane or an aircraft equipped with landing gear. It's your choice, your romantic setting. Lopez Island is relatively flat, in comparison to the other islands. It's fabulous for bicycling, especially if you don't like hills. You can bicycle until your heart is content on this island. There's much to explore. The people are extremely friendly and welcoming. Lopez doesn't attract the "boating crowd" as the other major San Juan Islands do. The shoreline surrounding Lopez Island offers shallow bays and exposed areas to weather and waves; consequently, boaters prefer the sheltered bays the other islands offer. Lopez Village is the center of commerce on the island. It's not far from the ferry dock, about 2.5 miles. You'll find your array of lodging, stores, and restaurants. There are no "malls" or anything close to a strip mall, the shops are small and quaint and carry the essentials. For the romantic campers, you can camp at small few locations on the island, Odlin County Park, Spencer Spit State Park and the private campground on Fisherman Bay Road. Plan ahead, especially if you plan on camping during the summer months, it can get rather busy. Take a romantic stroll at the Shark Reef Wildlife Sanctuary. This is a remarkable setting with an abundance of trees, over-looking the San Juan Channel. The channel is home to a host of wildlife, bring your binoculars and picnic. You can nestle down, soak up the suns brilliant rays and enjoy the majesty of sea lions ponderously heaving themselves up onto the rocks. Bald Eagles soar overhead, graceful as a silent breeze.
Located right on Fisherman's Bay is the Lopez Islander Resort. This serene magnificent wonder is just waiting for you to spend the romantic quality time. The resort is tranquil, each room has a view over-looking the water; therefore, you will enjoy the sunset's magical mystery, right from your room! To get to the resort, you have the option of driving via ferry, arriving by boat or floatplane.
