Oregon Light House...
A New View

An Oregon Light House is truly an amazing feat. There are 9-Public Light Houses that you can explore. Here's some history on them.

Get a NEW View...

Now, our kids and perhaps yours too, if you have any, have a different viewpoint. Our kids comment, "another Light House?" "Why don't we do something fun like, swimming?" "What's so special about an Oregon Lighthouse anyway?...all they have is a big light in them."

Is a Light House Just a BIG Light?...

Yes, it is true, Light Houses just host a Big Light. However, the Travel to Oregon Tips that we will give you and perhaps your Kids too, show that an Oregon lighthouse is not just a Big Light!

(We believe appreciation of history will come to our Kids in later years, just as it did with me and probably you too. Nevertheless we need to make your journey through an Oregon Light House fun and exciting....and we will!)

If you do have Kids along with you, bear in mind, the excitement level may be rather low, especially after visiting a few of the Light Houses.

We recommend that you visit at least one of the Oregon Light Houses with your Kids. Visit the Heceta Head Light House. It's a working light house and stands 205 feet above the ocean. It's the brightest light along the Oregon Coast, casting a beam of light out 21 miles to sea. It's also the most photographed light house in the U.S.

The Lantern Room of the Heceta Head Light House still has the original Fresnel Lens that was installed in 1894. The Fresnel Lens is typical of the Oregon Lighthouse Lens. It has the capability of taking scattered light and focusing it into a single beam. Its pretty neat.

The Heceta Head Light House is 12 miles north of Florence, off Highway 101. If you cannot find it, contact the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce: 800-524-4864.

If after visitng the Heceta Head Light House, you or your Kids may want some other other excitement. Florence, the nearby town, has a lot to offer. Take them to see the Sea Lion Caves or impressive Sand Dunes...they are over 300 feet high!

A Look Into The Past...

Check out the History of the Oregon Light House. There are some amazing historical attributes that happened before, during and after the construction phases of the Oregon Lighthouses.
