Oregon Scenic Drives

Get off the beaten path with these 3 - Oregon Scenic Drives.

  • Outback National Scenic Byway

This is a beautiful 171 miles of Oregon's wonders captured through the views along this gorgeous drive. To start your journey, drive 33 miles south of Bend, Oregon on Highway 97 to the turnoff just 2-miles past LaPine. Head southeast on Highway 31. As you're making your way along Highway 31 you'll notice a turnoff for Fort Rock. Head over there for a glimpse into Oregon's History with the Homestead Museum.

After visiting the Homestead Museum, return back to Highway 31 following the same route you originally took to get to Fort Rock.

Continue along Highway 31 heading southeast towards Silver Lake, all the while observing the spectacular views. Silver Lake is now more of a dry lake basin that a full scale lake.

As you continue along Highway 31 you'll join up with Highway 395. Follow 395 to Lakeview, considered the "tallest town" in Oregon rising 4,800 feet. Also, this is the home of Oregon's only geyser, Old Perpetual sending a spout of water into the air some 60 feet every minute or so.

The best time to take this spectacular drive is during the Spring, Summer and Fall months. Winter travel can be hazardous with icy conditions.

There are other Oregon Scenic Drives that you can find along the Oregon Coast. There's a wide variety of scenery throughout the State of Oregon, from the sandy ocean beaches to the high dry desert.
