Pacific City Oregon and Cape Kiwanda attract people from all over to this quaint area. Cape Kiwanda is to the north of Pacific City and to the south is 4-miles of beach that reach along the Nestucca Spit. Pacific City Oregon is known as the "Home of the Dory Fleet". Fishing dories, a flat-bottom boat with high sides, are launched directly into the surf. An uncommon event this day and age. You gotta see it. The boats are launced during the fishing season, usually late summer. Dory Days are held the third weekend in July. Get there and see the dories launced in action...lot's of fun for the whole family. Pacific City Oregon also attracts the hang-gliders. It's supurb for the beginner as well as the novice. And the gentle long rolling waves attract the surfers...wear a wetsuit though, it's colder than it looks. The photographers burn through a lot of film looking for that great shot of the sun setting over the jagged cape and islands. It's an impressive site, one not to be forgotten. So bring your camera. Once you're in the Pacific City area, get off the beaten path and head to a neat little hike, Cascade Head Trail. To get there drive sounth out of Pacific City past Neskowin about 6-miles on Highway 101. Head west on Three Rocks Road then north on Savage Road, you'll run right into the trail head. The trail winds through a rain-forest. You'll see the 250 year old Sitka Spruce tress, an impressive site indeed. As you are walking, you'll also pass giant ferns. The kids love it...it's kind of magical. You'll finally reach the grassy treeless Cascade Head with impressive views. The hiking is a bit challenging at the beginning, nothing for our kids though, then it eases out. It takes us a little over an hour to get to the Head. Check out the rest of the Oregon Coast .
