Washington State Art Museums...
There are some fabulous Washington State art museums and science centers. We'll outline a few of the most prominent one's. Each museum has it's own uniqueness and appeal to a variety of interests. We encourage you to check them out. Should you know of a museum that we don't have on the list, please notify us. We'll research it, and if it meets our family oriented criteria, we'll get it on the list. Seattle The Burke Museum - 206-543-5590 Located on the University of Washington and fossil vertebrates, fossil plants, butterflies and dragonflies. Frye Art Museum - 206-622-9250 Displays exhibits of 19th and 20th Century American and European artists. Pacific Arts Center - 206-329-2722 Hosts the first Northwest gallery for young artists. The summer exhibits are ideal for young audiences. Pacific Science Center - 206-443-2001 Has lot's of interactive, hands-on exhibits for both young and old. An ideal place to spend the day. Seattle Art Museum - 206-654-3100 Highl9ghts 3-major areas: Asian, African and modern art. Has fantastic roaming exhibits, check the museum for the latest showings. Seattle Children's Museum - 206-441-1768 Lot's of hands-on exhibits especially for younger children. Has an art room with instructor. The instructor hosts a variety of projects showing the children a step-by-step process to complete the art project. This is one of the best Washington State art museums, even though it doesn't host prominent art work, your children can develop their own. Tacoma James R. Slater Museum of Natural History - 253-756-3356 What better way to learn about Washington State History, this is a must see. Hosts a teaching and research museum. Tacoma Art Museum - 253-272-4258 Has a large permanent collection of American and French paintings and spectacular children's gallery. Spokane Ad Gallery - 509-328-4220 Located right on the Gonzaga University, this is one of the finest Washington State art museums featuring a permanent collection of 15th to 20th century prints. Hosts an array of traveling exhibits. Bellingham Maritime Heritage Center - This is an urban park that features the salmon life cycle. Outdoor Sculpture Museum - 360-676-3660 Located on Western Washington University, featuring contemporary art for exterior display. Whatcom Museum of History and Art - 360-676-6981 Focuses on Northwest art and history, logging, maritime and the Northwest Coast Indians. We've enjoyed these exhibits as another one of the finest Washington State art museums. Ellensburg Anthropology Museum - 509-963-3201 Art and Culture of New Guinea, located on Central Washington State University. Ellensburg Community Art Gallery - 509-925-2670 Hosts monthly art and crafts exhibits. Ginko Petrified Forest Interpretive Center - 509-856-2700 Features Ginko Trees that are solidified in lava. Fabulous display and walking tour. Located just east of Ellensburg. Spurgeon Art Museum - 509-963-2665 Hosts professional and student art work, located on Central Washington University. Bellevue Bellevue Art Museum - 425-454-3322 Features Northwest Art and Crafts, located in a shopping mall with permanent and rotating exhibits. Longview The Art Gallery - 360-577-2314 Features Pacific Northwest Artists, located on the Lower Columbia College Campus. Mount Rainier Longmire Museum - 360-569-2211 Located at Mount Rainier National Park, this museum features stuffed animals, photographs and American Indian artifacts. Pullman Heritage House Museum - 509-335-8681 Features African and African-American art, located on the Washington State university campus. Museum of Anthropology - 509-335-3936 Features early human development, located on the Washington State University campus. Museum of Art - 509-335-1910 Hosts a permanent collection of American and European art, located on Washington State University.
